Mario Savio, best known as one of the leaders of the Free Speech Movement, was also a beloved professor at Sonoma State until his untimely passing in 1996. His most well-known and influential speech, which marked one of the high points of the Free Speech Movement, was given on December 2, 1964, on the steps of Sproul Plaza at UC Berkeley. His thinking continues to resonate and inspire in the present day as we engage with many of the issues he addressed throughout his life.
Please join us on this 60th anniversary of the “Bodies Upon the Gears” speech to learn about his work and consider its relevance to issues of the current time.
