Fast becoming a Sonoma County Summer tradition, the Green Music Center’s Bluegrass Festival features some of the genre’s most exciting artists. This year we welcome back acoustic pioneer and innovator David Grisman along with fellow members of The Dawg Trio, Sam Grisman and Danny Barnes. Their signature mix of bluegrass, gypsy jazz, Latin rhythms, and klezmer music originated into a holistic approach they call “dawg music.” Also joining the lineup is the GRAMMY® Award-winning Steep Canyon Rangers and the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Alela Diane!
Having spent nearly two decades bending and shaping the bluegrass aesthetic, wedding it to elements of pop, country, and folk rock, the Steep Canyon Rangers remarkably unique catalogue of original music links them to the past while also demonstrating their ambitious intent to bring string-based music into contemporary relevance.
Alela Diane is celebrated for her ability to capture the nuances of an experience. Her most recent album Cusp embraces the complexity of today, and explores hope for what’s to come. “There is not a big place in the music industry for 30-something women with kids making music.” She laughs as she pauses, then adds, “Maybe we can create that space.”
