December 16 - "Social Security and Your Retirement" presented by VALIC financial
advisor, Jim Manly

December 17 – "Closing the Retirement Income Gap with My Retirement Outlook"

Retirement Ready? Does retirement seem like an ever-moving target? Join ING to find out how smart steps today can help employees better prepar for tomorrow's big day. This presentation will also show how to use ING’s My Retirement Outlook (MRO) calculator which integrates CalPERS pension benefit, Social Security, and your 403(b)/401(k)/457 account(s) into a holistic analysis. Faculty and staff will be able to see, a comprehensive illustration of future retirements. MRO is preloaded with the CSU’s pension benefit formula and will show personal tracking of one's retirement financial objectives.

December 18th – "Planning Your CalPERS Retirement" presented by CalPERS

Presentation time, located in Schulz 1121:

  • 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

To enroll in the class, please send an email to payroll@sonoma.edu and Payroll and Benefits will send a confirmation of class enrollment. After attending the class, employees may request a one-on-one, 30 minute session in the afternoon with the CalPERS representative, for individual assistance with completing the retirement application. These sessions are available only by appointment. Please bring your CalPERS estimate to the appointment. If a CalPERS estimate is needed, the booklets are available from the Payroll and Benefits Office. Please contact Trisha Torgrimson directly by e-mail, trisha.torgrimson@sonoma.edu to make arrangements. Each request is evaluated for the one-on-one sessions to determine priority. Each individual will be contacted by email or phone with specific details for the date, time, and location for their 30 minute session.

December 19 – "Put Savings Plus to Work For You" presented by Aon Hewitt

Retirment planning can begin at any age. People are living longer, health care costs are rising, and Medicare and Social Security’s futures are uncertain. This workshop is for employees who are interested in learning more about how the Savings Plus program can help plan for retirement.

This workshop includes the following topics to help develop a personal retirement plan:

  • How much money one might need in retirement
  • How to prepare and what factors to take into consideration
  • Understand some different options and strategies
  • How to use the 401(k) and 457 plans to one's advantage
  • Learn the difference between pre-tax and Roth
  • How to minimize risk through asset allocation

December 20 – "Social Security Benefits and Programs" presented by the Social
Security Administration

  • 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. with Q&A to follow

    This workshop will provide an overview of Social Security benefits and programs, including retirement survivors, disability and auxiliary benefits. This program will include some background and history of Social Security, as well as, some new features of the Social Security website.
