As part of the Sonoma State University ChatGPT Edu rollout, we are excited to invite you to OpenAI Day on Tuesday, May 6! Throughout the day we will have various sessions tailored to the unique ways in which users may benefit from this technology. The OpenAI team will be on site to lead each session, sharing insights and real-world applications from institutions worldwide. Whether you are already experimenting with AI or just beginning to explore its potential, these discussions will provide valuable perspectives and practical takeaways.
The sessions for OpenAI Day include:
10 to 10:50 a.m. - Transforming Business with AI - Stevenson 1300
This session is intended for SSU staff who are interested in learning ways to maximise efficiency utilizing AI tools.
- Learn how to unlock advanced capabilities, including custom GPTs, search, and data analysis tools.
- Develop a custom GPT tailored to your department or academic work.
- Become a leader in responsible AI experimentation and help guide SSU’s AI strategy.
11 to 11:50 a.m. - AI Isn’t the Future – You Are! - Stevenson 1300
Students will engage in conversation on opportunities beyond the basics of ChatGPT and learn how to get the most out of the tool.
- Break down tough topics, brainstorm ideas, and problem-solve with ChatGPT.
- Use AI to build your resume, prep for interviews, and level up your portfolio.
- Be part of shaping the future of AI in education, business, and beyond.
- Get behind-the-scenes insights from OpenAI experts
Noon to 12:50 p.m. - “Brown Bag” Lunch Series – Supporting Research - Stevenson 1301
Faculty, staff and students are welcome to bring their lunch and join the conversation as we discuss how to use AI tools to support research initiatives.
- Discover how AI is transforming research and the use of data within higher education and private institutions.
1 to 1:50 p.m. - Faculty Roundtables – AI in the Classroom - Stevenson 1301
This session will be an opportunity for SSU faculty to have meaningful conversations with each other and OpenAI staff and leverage AI to personalize learning and enhance student engagement.
- Learn how faculty are leveraging AI to personalize learning, foster creativity, and enhance student engagement.
- Discuss best practices and challenges in AI adoption within higher education.
- Discover resources and tools available through OpenAI to support faculty innovation.

All OpenAI Day sessions will be offered in person only. For this event, there will not be a virtual option and sessions will not be recorded. Plans are underway for additional in-person and virtual events in fall 2025. Information about those opportunities will be shared as they are finalized.
