On Tuesday, March 19 at 7 a.m., a new multi-factor authentication (MFA) prompt will appear in Duo when logging into SSU single sign-on (SSO) services. Duo has upgraded its traditional prompt with a new format, called the "Universal Prompt," that improves security and accessibility. This update may cause a brief interruption to users’ ability to log in via MFA between 7 and 7:15 a.m. March 19. Once the update is complete, users will see the new prompt screen when they sign in via MFA:
Traditional Prompt: Universal Prompt:
The Universal Prompt functions similarly to the traditional prompt, with some key differences:
- When prompted, your browser will redirect to a page hosted by Duo to verify your login attempt, and then redirect back to the SSU website or application you logged in from.
- Instead of clicking “Remember me for 12 hours” to remember your device and browser, select “Yes, this is my device” when prompted.
- You no longer need to select an authentication method each time you log in. Duo will automatically use the last method you authenticated with.
- To authenticate with a different method, choose “Other options” at the bottom of the prompt:
MFA devices can be managed through SSU’s MFA self-service portal. Any questions or assistance with technical support can be directed to the IT Help Desk at 707-664-HELP or helpdesk@sonoma.edu.
