TO: SSU Employees
FR: David Crozier, Associate Vice President for Financial Services

As part of ongoing efforts to manage the university budget, effective immediately, we are implementing a freeze on all nonessential travel until further notice. This is one of a number of initiatives the university is undertaking to help mitigate a projected budget deficit of approximately $21 million.

Documented pre-approval by a Cabinet member is required for all travel with the following exceptions:

  • Externally funded travel (e.g., Grants, Gifts or Contracts)
  • Athletics team travel and player recruitment
  • Travel through calendar year 2024 where costs have already been incurred (e.g., conference registration, airfare)
  • Recruitment travel
  • Faculty travel funded from the 2024-25 Professional Development allocation, with international travel approved by the Provost

Travel previously approved for 2025, which does not fall into the exception categories listed above, may no longer proceed. Travelers are encouraged to pursue any available refunds.
