Campus Community,
As you may be aware, the Point Fire is currently burning approximately 30 miles to the northwest from campus in the Lake Sonoma area near Healdsburg. There are also additional fires burning throughout Northern California that may impact air quality. We are actively monitoring all current incidents.
There is no threat to SSU as a result of any fires and campus operations are normal. We continue to monitor air quality conditions and forecasts and have existing plans in place to keep building air quality healthy in the event smoke enters the area.
As of this morning, the Point Fire has burned about 1,200 acres and is at 40 percent containment with progress going in a positive direction. While there has been limited damage to homes and businesses, our thoughts remain with those who may be directly affected by the situation or who are finding themselves reminded of prior fire emergencies in California over the past decade.
If you are a student who is personally affected by the fire and need accommodations, please contact your faculty directly or NomaCares for assistance. Impacted employees should contact their supervisor, who can coordinate with HR for further assistance. For updates on the Point Fire, check for updates with Sonoma County Office of Emergency Services and the CalFire Incident map.
If you find yourself needing support, Counseling and Psychological Services is available for any student seeking support at 707-664-2153. Our Employee Assistance Program, LifeMatters by Empathia, is available as a support resource for staff and faculty.
We will continue to monitor conditions, and we will update the campus should the situation change.
