FR: Evan Ferguson, Chief Technology Officer and Information Security Officer
To strengthen account security across Sonoma State University, SSU IT is implementing a new feature for Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) when logging in to your Seawolf account. Starting December 17, 2024, a new security enhancement will be added to the Duo Mobile app which will enhance the security of SSU accounts against unauthorized login attempts. While this is a minor change to your login process, it provides a significant improvement to your account security.
What’s Changing
Currently, when you receive a Duo Push notification to log in to your Seawolf account, selecting “Accept” allows the request to be fully processed. Following the update, you will also be asked to provide a three digit before you can select “Accept.”
Web view:
The code will display on the log-in screen, and you will need to enter the code into the DUO app to complete the verification process.
App View:
This change will only impact push notifications from the Duo Mobile app, and requires no action on your part. If you do not use Duo Push on your mobile device, and are using a Hardware Token or Passcodes from the Duo App, this change does not affect you.
Key Reminders
- SSU IT will never ask you for your Seawolf password or to enter the MFA 3-digit code.
- Only enter the 3-digit code if you are logging in to your Seawolf account.
- Select “I’m not logging in” from the Duo app if you receive a notification when you were not logging in to your Seawolf account.
We take your account security seriously and thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe digital environment. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@sonoma.edu.
