Over the past two weeks, I have taken time to meet with several key groups and individuals, including the President of the Associated Students, the Academic Senate leadership, SSU-Students for Justice in Palestine, the Jewish faculty affinity group, and various other stakeholders to listen, learn, and reflect, and develop a course of action for continued university dialogue about events in the Middle East, the harm violence causes to all communities, and appropriate avenues for the Sonoma State community to come together around learning opportunities in support of the many people impacted.
While this brief period of time may not allow us to process all that has happened, my immediate charge as the Acting President of Sonoma State University is to develop a course of action that moves the university forward. These meetings were instrumental in developing The Path Forward for SSU. This plan supersedes previous university communications in response to the protests and invites all interested parties to join me and SSU leadership to engage in an open, productive exchange that aligns with our established values, policies and procedures, and to best address the educational aspirations of our entire, collective Seawolf community.
In the coming weeks and particularly when fall semester begins, I am confident healing will occur, connections will develop, and progress will be made. I commit to keeping you and the campus informed.
Nathan Evans
Acting President
