It Matters! Voter Engagement Series

In advance of the November 2024 elections, the It Matters! series will offer nonpartisan events designed to facilitate education and foster conversations that will encourage our campus and the greater community to engage, participate, and vote.

The series will include a voter registration drive, an alumni panel discussion, and a series of themed discussions on topics such as,“The Role of AI in the Spread of Misinformation;” “Latinx Community & Voting;” and “The Initiative Wars: Financing of Ballot Measures;” among others.

Everyone is invited to the events on September 11 that kick off the series and encouraged to join the afternoon discussions over the next several months. 

It Matters!

  • Kickoff Events on Wednesday, September 11 
    •  “Defending Voting Rights: Past, Present, and Future:” 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., Stevenson Hall 1301, sponsored by The HUB Cultural Center. 
    • Opening Reception: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m, Wine Spectator Learning Center Patio. Light refreshments will be served, please RSVP.

  • Alumni Association Panel Discussion: September 18, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. with Political Science professors Dr. Robert Eyler (facilitator), Dr. David McCuan, and Dr. Emily Ray, and History Professor Dr. Amy Kittelstrom. Event is free but registration is required due to limited seating.
  • Afternoon Discussions: Wednesdays, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, Stevenson 1301 starting on September 11th and continuing through November.

The It Matters! series is sponsored by the Sonoma State Center for Community Engagement (CCE), the HUB Cultural Center, the University Library, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Department of Political Science Cheryl Peterson Memorial Lecture Fund, Associated Students of Sonoma State University, and the League of Women Voters of Sonoma County.
