FR: Karen Moranski, Provost, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer
Please join me in welcoming Diane J. Guido, Ph.D., MBA, to Sonoma State University as the new Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Success. Dr. Guido, who currently serves as Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), will join SSU on July 1.
At CSUN, she has been responsible over the past three-and-a-half years for implementing academic personnel matters for approximately 2,000 faculty, with responsibilities for overseeing orientations and professional development for department chairs and deans; serving as a liaison to the California Faculty Association; directing the grievance review process; interpreting collective bargaining agreements for academic personnel; and managing the retention, tenure and promotion process.
Prior to CSUN, Dr. Guido worked at Azusa Pacific University for 16 years, first as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs, then as Vice Provost for Graduate Programs and Research. She concurrently held an appointment as a professor of history. Dr. Guido started her teaching career in German at Mt. San Antonio College, a public community college in Walnut, CA. Her experience also includes nearly a decade at Claremont Graduate University where, as associate dean, she focused on enrollment management and implementation of new technology.
Dr. Guido’s appointment concludes a national search that brought several qualified candidates to campus for interviews. I am grateful for the sustained efforts of the search committee, and I look forward to working with Dr. Guido to support all of our faculty, both tenure track and lecturers and to advance the role of research, scholarship, and creative activity at Sonoma State University.
I am also extraordinarily grateful for the work of Dr. Simone Aloisio, Interim Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Success who has provided leadership to Faculty Affairs and Success and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. During Dr. Aloisio’s time in this role, he has supported faculty, deans, and the Provost’s Office and worked collaboratively with our campus faculty union representatives during an important moment of campus transition. His contributions as a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team have been invaluable, and we extend our best wishes to him in his future endeavors.
Best wishes to all on a successful finish to Spring Semester 2024.
