FR: Karen Moranski, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
I am thrilled to announce that Elise-Alexandria (Elise) Green has joined Sonoma State University as the new Director of Tribal Relations. Elise is an enrolled member of the Hualapai Tribe and is culturally affiliated with the Havasupai Tribe, both on ancestral lands in Arizona. She brings a wealth of experience in Native American Indian relations and educational initiatives, most recently serving as the Tribal Government Lead at San Francisco State University (SFSU).
Elise holds a Master’s in Legal Studies with an emphasis in Federal Indian Law from Arizona State University and a Master’s of Arts in Education from Claremont Graduate University. She has extensive experience working with Tribal governments, Native American Indian students, and university administration. She has been instrumental in creating and supporting university policy for the NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) program at San Francisco State University and has built enduring relationships with Northern California Tribes, state, and federal agencies.
In her new role, Elise will be leading our efforts in repatriation and Native American initiatives and deepening Sonoma State’s relationships with regional tribal communities. Ethical and respectful repatriation is a top priority of Sonoma State and the California State University system as we seek to right the wrongs done to California Native populations over centuries. We are grateful for the funding the Chancellor’s Office has provided in support of these efforts.
Please join me in welcoming Elise to our community. We are excited to see the impact her expertise and leadership will have on our continued efforts to foster a stronger, more inclusive environment for all and elevate Native American initiatives on our campus.
