Dear Campus Community,
This week Sonoma State is joining colleges, universities, corporations, non-profits, and K-12 schools across the nation to celebrate the success of first-generation college students, faculty, staff, and alumni by participating in the 2022 #CelebrateFirstGen campaign.
Co-launched in 2017 by the Center For First-Generation Student Success and the Council for Opportunity in Education, the First-Generation College Celebration recognizes those who are first in their families to attend college and celebrates the impact they make in our community.
To recognize the experiences of First-Gen students and their families, SSU is amplifying the #CelebrateFirstGen campaign this week, culminating in a national day of celebration on Tuesday, November 8, which coincides with the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
Join us!
SSU First-Gen Celebration Day
November 8, 2022
11:30 am - 1:00 pm in the Seawolf Plaza
Stop by our SSU step and repeat, take a selfie with our First-Gen photo props, grab a first-gen pin, and some snacks in honor of First-Generation College Celebration!
Seawolves are invited to share their stories on social media, and use specially designed zoom backgrounds (see attached) to help raise awareness of the systemic barriers of access to higher education. Help make this celebration complete by sharing your own First-Gen pride or showing your support for classmates and colleagues on social media. Include photos of students, faculty, staff and be sure to tag @COEtalk and @FirstgenCenter and use #CelebrateFirstGen, #FirstGenSeawolf, #FirstGenAtSSU hashtags.
Thank you for joining us in advancing the inspiring national narrative of first-generation student experiences.
