New Interactive Campus Map

Fellow Seawolves,

I know you have heard me say this over and over, but I love our beautiful campus, and I am not alone. Everyone, and I mean everyone, who steps foot on our grounds raves about the natural beauty — the stunning hills, our sparkling lakes, the abundance of trees and flowers, the clean air. Coming to study and work here is such a blessing.

And now, we’ve got the next best thing to being here: a gorgeous new interactive map. The artwork that serves as the base of the map is exquisite! Every little detail is rendered perfectly, from Lucy and Bacon and Eggs to the Alumni Grove and the hands on the clocktower. It is truly amazing! With the map, you can explore so many things: the ways Sonoma State supports sustainability, where it provides accessible parking and entry locations, and where construction may impact the campus.

This map is state-of-the-art technology with lots of functionality. You can search for a building, get directions to a building, and share them. You can find a place to eat, study, or park your bike. Regardless of what device you use, this map works just as well on a small phone as it does on a large screen.

The map is a true work in progress. As our campus changes, the map changes because we can easily revise it in real time. And as we get new information, such as our accessible pathways, we will add it to the map.

Included with our new map is a special feature, the 360 virtual tour. This immersive experience will be of particular interest to prospective students and parents, and showcases exquisite panoramic views that provide further engagement through texts, pictures, videos, and links to other web pages.

I am so thankful for the many employees who made this project a reality. It was a true campus-wide initiative that brought together staff from every corner of the university: Disability Services for Students, Entrepreneurial Services, Emergency Services, Facilities Management, Parking Services, IT, Strategic Communications, Strategic Enrollment, and University Police. I want to extend an extra thank you to Sandy Destiny in Strategic Communications, who championed the map project and worked resolutely for its success.

I urge you to see our campus in a new way at map.sonoma.edu, and please encourage anyone with an interest in our university to give us a visit.

Mike
