We know that many of you have already experienced significant issues with Canvas today. Canvas is aware of the problem, which is affecting their entire North American service. They are reporting that the problem is with their AWS servers and they are actively trying to resolve it. We currently do not have an estimated time of resolution. We will post updates as we have them on our website, ctet.sonoma.edu.
We are very sorry about this service failure during a critical time of the semester, and will make sure that Canvas thoroughly investigates the issue to prevent it from recurring.
If you have a final exam or other assignment impacted by the Canvas outage:
We recognize that the timing of this outage during finals week has created a good deal of added trouble for many students and instructors. We recommend contacting your instructors individually if you had a timed final exam in Canvas or other final submission (e.g., a paper or project) that was impacted by today's outage, and please let them know about your difficulty completing the activity. We will be reaching out directly to impacted faculty to let them know how to adjust due date deadlines for exams and other assignments in Canvas today, and we ask for your patience as faculty work to implement any changes impacted for submissions today (Tuesday, December 7).
The interruptions to Canvas access have been intermittent, so if you experience difficulty please continue attempting access.
