Alternative Consultation Campus Wide Communication Review

The following is an update about two fee proposals (attached) for which the Student Fee Advisory Committee (SFAC) has initiated an Alternative Consultation Process, aiming  to engage and solicit feedback from key stakeholders, including students, faculty and staff . The proposals are:

  1. Consolidating the Counseling & Psychological Services Fee (CAPS), Student Health Fee (SHC) and the Health Facilities Fee into a single Student Health and Wellness Fee  
  2. Redistributing the Instructionally Related Activities (IRA) Fee

The Alternative Consultation Process will include student open forums, student surveys, and meetings with the students, faculty and staff leadership groups.  

Meetings with the leadership groups have started and are currently scheduled through May:
Associated Students

  • March 25, 2025 – CAPS and SHC Fee consolidation
  • April 8, 2025 – IRA Redistribution

Academic Senate

  • April 17, 2025 – CAPS and SHC Fee consolidation and IRA Redistribution

Staff Council

  • April 8, 2025 – CAPS and SHC Fee Consolidation
  • May 6, 2025 – IRA Redistribution

Sonoma State University Student Survey
Students were invited via email to attend the open forums and/or provide feedback via the Student Survey via Qualtrics.

Once SFAC has gathered input and feedback, they will develop a report, including the feedback obtained from these various sources, and provide a final report and recommendation to Interim President Cutrer.  The President will review SFAC’s recommendation and will make a final decision with the desire to implement any changes in FY25/26.
