TO: Campus community
FR: Kendall Newman, Emergency Services and Business Continuity Manager

The Offices of Emergency Services and Continuity Planning has conducted a test of our emergency notification system this morning. The test is now concluded.

The test is conducted in support of International ShakeOut Day today, October 17, when millions of people worldwide participate in earthquake drills at work, school, or home!

This testing exercise is conducted periodically to verify that our emergency notification system is functioning as expected. The test consisted of issuing a:

  • text and voice message to subscribed mobile phones and business phones;
  • email notification to the entire campus community;
  • desktop override notifications to state-managed computers;
  • push notification to Rave Guardian safety app

You can verify or update your contact information by logging into MySSU (students) and MyHR (SSU employees). This information is added automatically to our emergency notification system for all students, faculty, and staff. If you believe you are subscribed to any of these systems but DID NOT receive a message, please email emergency@sonoma.edu.

Sonoma State University's Office of Emergency Services and Continuity Planning is managed by Risk Management & Safety Services and is responsible for maintenance of the campus Emergency Operations Plan.  The plan includes how the university will plan, respond to, and recover from various emergencies and complies with the Standardized Emergency Management Systems (SEMS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS). The Office of Emergency Services website also includes information on how to prepare for and respond to an emergency.

We appreciate your commitment to safety. If you have questions about this test or any emergency-related matters, please contact our office at emergency@sonoma.edu
