Sonoma State’s 2024 Commencements on Saturday were joyous celebrations of our graduates and their accomplishments, and I could not have been more impressed by how our many staff members, faculty, and 100-plus MPPs united to create a truly special and memorable day for the Class of 2024.
Like geese effortlessly gliding across one The Lakes – powered by furious unseen paddling below the surface – the SSU team managed every Commencement challenge with commitment, grace, and tact, creating a seamless presentation. This was the largest single-day Commencement in University history, with more than 2,000 graduates and thousands of family members and friends, and everyone answered the call with professionalism and pride.
It was my privilege to preside at the day’s ceremonies, and I am grateful for all of the thoughts, plans, hearts, and hands that made Commencement 2024 a day to remember. You have my profound thanks and the thanks of the entire Seawolf community.
In the coming days, as the recent whirlwind of events eases, I hope you will have an opportunity to reflect on all that SSU has achieved on campus and in our communities over the past year, to remember everything that makes this University so special, and to honor the spirit and energy of Dr. Mike Lee, whose enthusiasm and optimism about Sonoma State and its people and spaces was heartfelt and sustained. This is indeed a special place, with an important mission and passionate, committed people to carry it out.
In appreciation for a wonderful Commencement and all of this year’s achievements, and to celebrate the end of the academic year and kick off the summer, please join me at the annual Scoops of Gratitude event. Come out to Seawolf Plaza and Person Lawn from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday for frozen treats, games, and camaraderie with those who make Sonoma State special – all of you.
Again, my sincere thanks to all who helped make Commencement so celebratory and memorable. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday!
