Dear Colleagues,
Sonoma State’s Honorary Degree Nominating Committee invites your nominations for honorary degrees to be conferred at the Spring 2023 Commencement ceremonies. Nominations are due to the committee by close of business on Friday, November 11, 2022.
CSU campuses have awarded honorary degrees to distinguished individuals who have demonstrated excellence in areas that benefit CSU campuses; the state, nation and/or world; and/or humanity. Recipients serve as examples to be recognized and honored for their exemplary contributions.
Attached are the procedures for consideration for SSU. More information about the selection of recipients of honorary degrees may be found in The California State University Board of Trustees Policy for Awarding Honorary Degrees.
Please note that the process is confidential, and nominators may not contact a prospective nominee to discuss a possible nomination.
The timeline for academic year 2022-2023 is as follows:
- November 11, 2022 – Nominations are due to the campus committee. After reviewing procedures (see attachment), please submit recommendations using the following nomination form.
- November 14, 2022 – The Nominating Committee convenes to evaluate nominations.
- November 18, 2022 – Confidential recommendations from the Nominating Committee are delivered to President Lee.
- November 30, 2022 – Confidential recommendations from President Lee are forwarded to the CSU Office of the Chancellor.
- February, 2023 – President Lee informs recipient(s) of the award and invites them to participate in Spring 2023 Commencement.
