FR: Karen Moranski, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Matthew Paolucci Callahan has accepted the position of Interim Associate Vice President, Faculty Success. Dr. Paolucci Callahan is a Professor in the Psychology department and the Faculty Fellow for Teaching and Learning at CTET at Sonoma State University. He earned a Ph.D. in social psychology in 2008 from The Pennsylvania State University, and his research interests include stereotyping and prejudice, gender bias and sexism, and prejudice reduction strategies. His current research focuses on expanding undergraduate ethics curricula in STEM to reduce gender bias and sexual harassment, a project funded by the National Science Foundation that he leads with Dr. Lynn Cominsky. As a faculty fellow, he has led customized workshops in teaching and learning across the university, provided consultations to SSU faculty, and designed an orientation program for new tenure track faculty.
Dr. Paolucci Callahan will begin part-time this fall in his efforts to assist faculty with hiring processes, RTP processes, faculty development, and conflict resolution. In January he will begin his full-time work as Interim AVP and continue in that position through at least December 2022. He will have an office in the Provost Office on the second floor of Salazar Hall, and he will work in close collaboration with the Provost and the Senior Associate Vice President of University Personnel Jeff Banks. Dr. Paolucci Callahan will refer faculty labor relations issues to Senior AVP Banks.
Dr. Paolucci Callahan will hold an open forum next week to share his goals for the position with the faculty and listen to their ideas and concerns. He will send out an email with further information.
I am pleased to welcome Dr. Paolucci Callahan to this new role, and I hope you will join me in congratulating him.
