FR: Missy Brunetta, Director of Emergency Services and Associate Risk Manager, and Nader Oweis, Chief of Police
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Rohnert Park. Sonoma State Police Department (SSPD) and Facilities Management are actively monitoring Copeland Creek (which traverses the northern end of the campus) and campus roadways, and responding to flooding and debris issues.
Campus is not closed but access is restricted today, Sunday, October 24. We advise that community members not come to campus today, unless absolutely necessary. Campus residents are encouraged to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel around campus, especially in vehicles, given the heavy rain and wind conditions.
Based on current and forecasted conditions, the campus will remain open tomorrow, Monday October 25. We do not anticipate that there will be disruptions to classes or other campus operations on Monday. Should conditions change, students and employees will be notified through email and the emergency notification system.
SSPD is closing roads and pathways as needed to allow for mitigation of flooding and to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians. Please observe all closures and follow the instruction of officers and facilities employees. Closures may include, but are not limited to:
- Sequoia Avenue (main entrance)
- Vine Street (entry at the stoplight)
- Redwood Drive at the tennis courts
- Parking lots
- Walking paths that may be affected
Please use caution when driving in the rain. Do not drive through standing water when the depth is unknown. Call 911 with any emergencies and report non-emergency weather related hazards to SSPD at 707-664-4444.
Non-urgent questions about campus conditions can be sent to emergency@sonoma.edu.
