Message from the President March 10, 2020

March 10, 2020

Dear Campus Community,

With all the news reports on the novel coronavirus COVID-19, I know that this is a time of uncertainty and great concern for everyone. While current conditions are rapidly changing, please be assured that we have no coronavirus cases at Sonoma State. The safety of our campus community, including all students, faculty, staff and guests remains our highest priority, and we are working very closely with the CSU Chancellor’s Office, local public health officials, and other experts to maintain that safety.

A number of you have asked whether the campus will move to virtual courses or close altogether as several other campuses have done. Current CSU guidelines for such a move depend substantially on local circumstances, and as of this date, we do not meet conditions for virtual instruction or campus closure. However, should the situation change, we will reassess our campus response. Again, please know that we are working to ensure that our students progress and graduate on time and in good standing.

I have asked CFO & Vice President of Administration and Finance Joyce Lopes, who is also Chair of Sonoma State’s Incident Response Team (IRT) to manage the day-to-day operations related to keeping our campus safe while we continue with our normal business. Members of the IRT include a cross section of staff from various departments. VP Lopes and I are in frequent communication, and I have regular Zoom calls with Chancellor White and my fellow CSU Presidents. Expect a forthcoming message from VP Lopes with more specific information related to our campus response to COVID-19.

We are a resilient, compassionate, and engaged community, and we will continue to stand strong. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

With gratitude,
