Kittens in a box:
These kittens were left in a box on the sidewalk in a shopping center one morning. They were found by the Webmistress on her way to work.
This kitten did not find a home as quickly as the other one, and was taken home "just for the night" by the previous Webmaster. He fully intended to bring the kitten back the next morning, but was foiled by his roommates. This kitten, named Pillow, now has a home with C.J. and his family.

This page may be the first web page with kittens. Not the first kittens on the internet, but the first on a web page served by an HTTP server and viewed with a graphical web browser.
This page was first created in 1993, when most people still didn't know about the web. SSU's one-and-only web server was an experiment being run by a student assistant who worked in CMTS (now Information Technology) - at the time, Gopher was what people were talking about. The student assistant was CJ Holmes, a student in the Computer Science department, and the server was a Macintosh IIcx running Mac System 7 and MacHTTP, in CJ's office, which was a tiny coat closet with a big desk stuffed in it - the door could not be closed when CJ sat at the desk. The picture of the kittens was posted on the web server, and shared with several people, mostly in the Library. The Library director was impressed, and gave CJ a job (still as a student assistant), building the Library's first website. His new office could accommodate several chairs. 8^)
The Kittens page has been kept alive all these years, moving with every server upgrade, to commemorate our site's early beginnings, and to help IT monitor SSU's websites.
Pillow lived a long, happy and fluffy life with CJ and his family.
