“In Conversation With...” Events are an opportunity to welcome our new faculty members to the School of Social Sciences and to connect socially and intellectually with friends and colleagues.

Please arrive at 4:30pm to enjoy light refreshments.

Dr. James Mestaz is an Assistant Professor of Latin American History at SSU. His courses focus largely on the histories of marginalized groups, allowing students to draw connections between past and current social and environmental justice struggles. This approach fits into his commitment to linking students to grassroots and community organizations in both the U.S. and Latin America. He will be discussing his recently published book Strength from the Waters: A History of Indigenous Mobilization in Northwest Mexico, which is an Environmental and Ethnohistory that interrogates the historic connection between humans and water.
