Professional Background

Jeri Echeverria was recently named interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Sonoma State University. During her career she has served as Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer of the California State University system, as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at California State University, Fresno, as well as serving as Chair of the Department of History, Associate Dean of Social Sciences, and Associate Provost at the Fresno campus. Dr. Echeverria is a strong advocate of promoting faculty research and student success. Her own research has focused on the history of immigration to the United States, and specifically on the settlement of immigrant groups in the American West. Dr. Echeverria’s parents were born in the Basque region of northern Spain and many of her public presentations and publications deal with Basque settlement in the American west. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Humanities from the University of California, Irvine, and her masters and doctorate in History from the University of North Texas.
