The Faculty Idea eXchange – February 19, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Join fellow faculty members for an enthusiastic idea exchange during a working lunch in the open space area of the SSU Faculty Center. Pizza is provided on a first come, first served basis. Please bring your own drinks.
Conversations will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
At times there will be Ed Tech topics, however participants are free to suggest topics in this open forum as we discuss the pedagogy of teaching and learning.

Flipping the Classroom - Techniques for Success – February 25, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Claudine Franquet, Senior Instructional Technology Consultant at CSU Chico, will lead a 1-hour workshop where she will discuss techniques for not "flopping" when you "flip". This session will also include links to valuable resources and a 15-min question and answer session at the end of the presentation.
This workshop will be available from computers connected to the Internet and able to stream voice & video. Viewing may be done from home, office or other locations. In-person viewing will be available at the Faculty Center at SSU. A link for virtual event will be placed on the Faculty Center website a week before the event.
Lecture Online with BB Collaborate Web Conferencing - February 25, noon – 1 p.m.
Learn how to use Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing via Moodle to deliver a live lecture with video, voice, chat, PowerPoint, and screen sharing or conduct virtual office hours.
Attendees will be able to: add a Blackboard Collaborate session to Moodle, share guest link to people outside of SSU, virtually share a PowerPoint presentation, collaboratively web surf with students, share files with students in real time, and deliver or moderate a webinar.
This workshop will be held live in the SSU Faculty Center located on the first floor of Schulz in room 1112.
Practical Methods to Leverage and Manage Student Devices in the Classroom – March 7 at 1 and 3 p.m. in SCHULZ 2050B
Tired of your students texting during class, watching videos on their iPads, or posting on Facebook while you’re teaching? You’re not alone!
This 1.5-hour hands-on workshop led by Professor Sandy Ayala from the School of Education, will guide you through practical uses of student devices in the classroom. By the end of this workshop faculty will learn about simple applications and strategies to keep students actively engaged by utilizing devices they already bring with them.
This workshop will be offered twice on Friday, March 7 in Schulz 2050B, once at 1 p.m. and again at 3 p.m., and is meant to serve as a follow-up to the popular workshop led by Professor Ayala at this year’s Faculty Retreat. There is limited seating and attendance will be on a first come, first-served basis. Participants are encouraged to bring personal devices such as smart phones, iPads or tablets, and laptops as there are a limited number of desktops available.
