Math 150

PURPOSE:  Math 150 is a lower division geometry course, which satisfies the General Education requirement in Mathematics. It will cover introductory topics in geometry. It is recommended for students who intend to major in liberal arts and/or go on to teaching programs. Special emphasis will be placed on problem solving and proofs.

 

PREREQISITE: Intermediate Algebra

 

TEXT: Chan & Brannen, Elementary Geometry with Projects and Explorations.

 

GRADING:

            Homework and in class assignments....................25%

            Midterm exams ....................................................36%

            Paper.......................................................................5%

            Final Exam.............................................................34%

 

            For the in class assignments, students will work in groups. The term paper will be a two page reaction paper. Its topic will be, “What applications of this material have you found in your every day life, this semester?” You may turn it in as soon as you have found two pages worth of applications and written them up, but the deadline will be Dec. 6. The deadline for all late work will be the final examination. Students are responsible for announcements made in class.
