Eucalyptus Tree Removal

TO: All Campus
FR: Facilities Management

Sonoma State University has been awarded a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reduce fire hazard fuel loads on campus.

The scope of work entails the removal of over 50 eucalyptus trees along East Cotati Avenue by the track and field and along Petaluma Hill Road near the campus shipping and receiving entrance. The oil produced by eucalyptus in the branches, bark, and leaves makes these trees highly flammable. Removal of eucalyptus trees is recommended in fire-prone areas such as Sonoma County.

The tree removal work will be completed by an outside contractor and is scheduled to take place between August 10 - 24, with the hours of work being Monday - Saturday from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The eucalyptus trees will be felled and removed from campus.
