TO: Campus community
FR: Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer, Vice President for Student Affairs

It is with deep sadness that I report the tragic loss of a member of our Seawolf family. Hugo Alan Ramirez, a senior student in the Business Administration program, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway near campus on Monday. Hugo was a cherished member of our Seawolf community. He was active in the Residence Hall Association and the Men’s Club Soccer team. Please join me as we express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. We have reached out to members of his family and will let you know if we receive information regarding memorial services.

Please know that counseling support is available for students, faculty, and staff who desire to speak with someone. Students are encouraged to reach out to SSU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at (707) 664-2153. Faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage of counseling services provided through the SSU Employee Assistance Program.

If you are aware of someone in distress, please feel free to contact CAPS, CARE Team, or the Office of the Dean of Students.

The death of a student is always difficult to understand and accept. Please take care of yourselves and those around you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer
Vice President for Student Affairs
