The Liberal Studies-Ukiah Degree Completion Program offers coursework in the social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences while providing a flexible major through which students may also take courses in other areas of interest. Acceptance into the Liberal Studies-Ukiah major requires that students are residents of Mendocino County or Lake County, have completed all California State University transfer requirements, and have been admitted to Sonoma State University as a Liberal Studies-Ukiah major.

Earn Your Degree from SSU by Taking Classes Near You

The Liberal Studies-Ukiah B.A. Program offers face-to-face, hybrid and (soon!) online courses taught by SSU faculty from departments across campus. Face-to-face meetings are scheduled evenings and weekends at Mendocino College for students with work, family or other commitments that do not allow them to join traditional programs on the SSU main campus in Rohnert Park.

Why Major in Liberal Studies?

“The diversity of classes that the program offers has given me a broader outlook on the world. I have more of an accepting attitude now.” --Sarah Reeser, LIBS major

The Liberal Studies-Ukiah degree completion program is a supportive learning community where students are challenged intellectually as they experience a broad range of coursework. Like other liberal arts majors, the Liberal Studies-Ukiah major is designed to provide students with a broad educational background that is excellent preparation for students interested in careers in teaching or counseling, the legal profession, or business as well as graduate work in the social sciences and the humanities. Our NEW Career & Grad School Info page provides career and certificate, credential (Multiple Subjects) and graduate school options for students who earn a B.A. in Liberal Studies, as well as tips for requesting letters of recommendation.

Teach for Liberal Studies-Ukiah

The Liberal Studies-Ukiah Program is always looking for qualified and enthusiastic instructors from all disciplines who want to help Mendocino and Lake County residents earn their bachelor’s degree through our degree completion program, offered by Sonoma State University out of Mendocino College. In Spring 2019 we will be conducting a formal search to reconstitute our pool of temporary, part-time lecturers approved to teach for the program. In the meantime, if you would like to be added to our ‘emergency hire file’, or would like to receive a reminder to apply to the lecturer pool when we begin accepting applications, please fill out an application. If you have questions, please email the Liberal Studies-Ukiah Program Coordinator, Paula Lane.
