PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Robert P. Dale, (B.A., 1963) is a Sonoma County Municipal Court Judge and head of Sonoma County Drug Court Rehabilitation Program. In 1995, he became interested in the concept of a highly structured, intensive Drug Court, which dealt with long time drug addicts. Dale is described as "part lawmaker, part parent, part priest" as he presides over the court. He was the first SSU graduate to become a judge and the first to become a lawyer admitted to practice in California. He was granted the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998.

Mike Kerns, (B.A., 1985) is a Sonoma County Supervisor, 2nd District.  He serves on boards of Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA), Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART),  and Northbay Watershed Association. He is a member of Sonoma Criminal Justice Council, Juvenile Justice Coordination Council and Sonoma County Housing Coalition. Mr. Kerns is a retired police sergeant with City of Petaluma and past President of Waugh School District Board of Trustees.

Carole Migden, (M.A., 1978) Chair, California State Board of Equalization and a former member of California State Assembly. While in office, Migden initiated a broad array of legislation, including efforts to strengthen breast cancer treatments, and allowing persons with HIV/AIDS and other disabilities to return to work without losing their Medi-Cal coverage. She was selected as "Rookie of the Year" in California Journal in 1998. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999.
Joe Rattigan, LL.D., is a former California state senator who helped establish Sonoma State College (now SSU), and served as justice on state Court of Appeals. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1994.
Helen Rudee was the first woman elected to Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and first woman to chair Santa Rosa School Board. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1996.
Donna Lee Ryan, (B.A., 1969) is former deputy district attorney of Sonoma County. She is a recipient of James T. Lee Boutonniere Award for Outstanding Prosecutor and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1997.
Tim Smith, (B.A., 1977) is Sonoma County Supervisor, 3rd District. Smith was elected to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in 1988 and reelected in March of 2000. He is a member of Local Agency Formation (LAFCO), San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), Bay Area Quality Management District, and serves on Board of Directors for California State Association of Counties (CSAC). He received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003.
Nicki Swenson, Ed.D., (Credential, 1985; M.A., 1985) is director of Special Education Services for Contra Costa County Office of Education.
Elliot Werk, (B.S., 1980) is a State Senator in Idaho legislature. Werk first worked as an engineering geologist and geothermal exploration geologist. He is owner of environmental consulting business and president of Franklin Randolph Bench Neighborhood Association (FRBNA) working to enhance neighborhood though city and county grants and resident initiatives.
Jeanne Woodford (B.A., Criminal Justice, 1978) was the first female warden in the 148 year history of San Quentin State Prison. She was appointed by Arnold Schwarzenegger to head California Department of Corrections. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2002.
Cerena Wong is a Sonoma County Superior Court Judge.
