Belva Davis was the first female African-American television reporter on the West Coast who earned six regional Emmy Awards, the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 1996, and received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 2004. She was also the Commencement Speaker in 2004.
Pete Golis, (B.A., 1966) is editorial director of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat newspaper. In 1989, a Press Democrat survey identified him as one of the 10 most powerful people in Sonoma County. He has received writing awards from the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the San Francisco Press Club, the Peninsula Press Club and the Best in the West competition. He also received the Gray Foundation award for efforts to promote human rights in 2001 and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1990. SSU Commencement Speaker in 2002.
Sue Ellen McCann, (B.A., 1976) is an Emmy award winner and senior executive producer at KQED-TV in San Francisco. She was a founding member of the Association of Independent Public Television Producers and the recipiant of a 2000 Emmy award for a series she produced on the importance of voting. McCann received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001.
