AUTHORS

Kate Braverman, (M.A., 1986) is an author and publisher of two books, four volumes of poetry and a book of short stories. Her work received national recognition, as criticism of her work is very favorable. She later joined the CSULA English Department faculty and taught creative writing. She was granted the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1990.

William C. Davis, (B.A., 1968; M.A., 1969) has been nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize in History and is a noted historian. Davis is author or editor of more than 40 books and a well known magazine publisher. He is also a consultant for historical films and TV documentaries. Davis is a Professor of History and Director of Programs at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He was granted the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1993.
Michele Anna Jordan, (B.A., 1975) is a nationally-known writer and author of 15 books to date and has been a newspaper columnist since 1986. She worked as a restaurant critic for 15 years, writes for a number of national magazines and teaches, lectures and cooks around the country. Jordan is also a radio host and producer and has worked in television, as well. She founded the Sonoma Provence Exchange in 1995 and was granted the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1994.
Gaye LeBaron is a premier columnist for Santa Rosa Press Democrat and an author. LeBaron and three other co-authors published a two-volume history of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters Degree in 1995.
Elizabeth Murray, (B.A., 1976) is a garden photographer, author and creator of five books, 36+ calendars, and an extensive garden slide library of Monet's garden. Murray lectures nationally and conducts workshops at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, as well as at her beautiful home and gardens in Monterey, California. She was granted the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998.
D.A. Powell is an award-winning poet and previous professor of English at University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, Sonoma State University, Columbia University, and the University of Iowa. D.A. Powell is currently the Briggs-Copeland Lecturer in Poetry at Harvard. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2002.
Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D., (B.A., 1972; M.A., 1973) is an author and medical anthropologist. Dr. Villoldo was educated at the Saybrook Institute and Sonoma State University. He is the founder and president of Four Winds Society, Inc. and was granted the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1997.
