RESOLUTION OF CONCERN REGARDING CHANCELLOR REED'S LEADERSHIP OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the recruitment and retention of highly qualified faculty and staff is crucial to the mission of the California State University; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Reed's record in contract negotiation (an unprecedented imposition of terms on faculty two years in a row, the second in disregard of the conclusions of a neutral fact-finding report) has a profoundly negative impact on the morale of faculty and staff at all twenty three campuses of the CSU, creating an environment that compromises the ability to attract and retain good faculty and staff; and
WHEREAS, the Chancellor's record in relation to the faculty, in particular, reflect a disregard for the principles outlined in the CSU Statement of Collegiality, including a commitment to shared governance, mutual respect and trust;
Therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Sonoma State Academic Senate, while recognizing the positive contribution of Chancellor Reed in securing additional funding for the CSU from the state legislature, expresses its serious lack of confidence in the Chancellor's commitment to the values and mission of the university and in his willingness/ability to advocate for the needs and concerns of the faculty and staff; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Sonoma State Academic Senate urges the Board of Trustees to take these concerns into consideration in the Chancellor's three-year performance evaluation; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Sonoma State Academic Senate urges the Board of Trustees to actively promote the principles outlined in the Statement of Collegiality and to work with the Chancellor to address critical issues relating to workload and the salary gap that have been eclipsed by the tremendous amount of time, money, and energy that has been invested in a poorly conceived merit pay system.
