Application to the Psychology Major

Current Sonoma State University students interested in applying to the major:

Applications are available the first month of each semester in the Psychology Department office, Stevenson 3092. Fall 2014 applications available August 19th, deadline September 19th.

Current Sonoma State students who wish to apply to the psychology major should have a cummulative grade point average of 3.0. We strongly encourage interested students to complete PSY 250 Introduction to Psychology (GE D1) and MATH 165 Statistics (GE B4). Both lower division courses are required for the major.

After you complete and submit an application to declare Psychology as your major, your application will be reviewed by a faculty committee and the Department Chair.

High School students interested in applying to the major:

You must have a 3.0 GPA to enter into the Psychology Department as a Psychology major. Indicate on your Sonoma State application form that you would like Psychology as your major.

Community college, transfer students or others interested in applying to the major:

You must have a 3.0 GPA to enter into the Psychology Department as a Psychology major, and must have completed an Introduction to Psychology course with a grade of B or better. Indicate on your Sonoma State application form that you would like Psychology as your major.

All courses that you would like to count toward the major must be passed with a grade of C or better, and must be taken for a grade when there is an option.
