The ensemble is a group of about 60 of the most talented woodwind, brass and percussion players on the university campus. Its membership includes music majors, music minors, majors in other academic disciplines as well as a few community members. The focus is on the performance of serious wind ensemble literature, along with the best of the traditional band repertoire. The group performs four concerts per year and tours.
Chamber Wind Ensemble
Brass Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble
An outgrowth of the University Symphonic Wind Ensemble is the SSU Chamber Wind Ensemble, formed in 2003, the Brass Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble, formed in 2004. Each group is comprised of select members from the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. While the core instrumentation of these groups is traditional, the ensembles maintain a flexible instrumentation to accommodate a diverse and exciting repertoire. Original works by composers including Gabrieli, Strauss, Dvorak, Grieg and Stravinsky form the core repertoire of these ensembles.
To get involved in the SSU performing ensembles, only a placement audition is necessary.
