The Composers Forum is a weekly discussion and study of living composers and the music they write and of other aspects of music study—analysis of music of the past and present, music history, music theory, music business—as they relate to composition. All styles and genres are welcome.
Discussion begins with works by members of the Forum, a weekly round-robin sharing of works-in-progress. Most meetings also feature presentation and discussion of music to be performed by professional or student ensembles during the semester. Each student in the Forum makes at least one presentation on a composition related topic of their choice. Activities also include guest composer lectures and improvisation workshops.
Composers Forum often meets jointly with the Jazz Forum for guest performances and for presentations about on-campus music technology resources.
The Forum is open to all students with an interest in composition. Student Composers Concerts each semester provide an opportunity for all student composers, whether or not they are enrolled in the Form, to present their music in performance.
