What I Do at SSU
I am the administrative coordinator for the Music Department. I work closely with the Department Chair of Music, the Artistic Director of the School of Performing Arts, the Music Faculty and the Music students. I manage all department scheduling, budgets, and all the tasks that keep our department humming along.
I'm a New Yorker, born and raised. But not a city gal; I grew up on Long Island in a beach town on the Great South Bay. There was always music in our home. We had an eclectic collection of record albums, and I played them often. There was everything from Tchaikovsky to Sophie Tucker. My mother made sure I had singing and piano lessons, and she often took me to see ballets and musicals in New York City.
After high school, I headed to sunny southern California where I spent my time surfing and playing in the sun. Oh, and attending college. I met my husband on my first day at Fullerton Community College and veered off the education path to marry and raise two outstanding daughters.
After many years working in libraries from Santa Ana to San Rafael, I had the felicitous opportunity to work at Sonoma State University in the Modern Languages department. During the ten years I worked in that department, I finished a Bachelors in English Literature and a Masters in Creative Writing.
Working in the Music department, has been a joyous learning experience. Not only do I have the good fortune to work with talented and dedicated faculty members and students, I also get to hear live music all day every day.
When I am not working you can find me at home working with my husband in our garden, or writing, or curled up with a good book.
