Tech in the Residence Halls
SSU IT has answered the students’ demands for greater wireless access by installing 275+ Aruba access points that support the new 802.11n standard, as well as the older 802.11a and 802.11g standards. Residents should be able to receive wireless signal in all residential suites.
Our primary focus is on improving the performance and the stability of the wireless network in the Residence Halls. We have recently improved the wireless back haul infrastructure and upgraded the wireless controllers to increase the performance and reliability in all the Residence Halls. SSU-SECURE, a new secure, encrypted wireless network, is available in the Residence Halls as of Spring 2013.
Visit our WiFi at SSU page for additional information on all the available wireless networks including instructions on how to connect and troubleshooting tips.
Antivirus for SSU Students
In order to keep SSU a safe computing environment, students are required to have antivirus software on their personal computer when connecting to our network. While the specific choice of software is ultimately up to the student, below is a sample list of free and paid antivirus options. It is highly recommended that you remove any existing antivirus software on your computer before installing new antivirus software.
Many of the below options provide support for Mac OS X or Linux in addition to Windows. Contact the IT Help Desk for questions or assistance with malware protection.
