Phone Service in the SSU Residence Halls
BYOP - Bring Your Own Phone
Each Residential Hall bedroom has a single telephone jack and phone number to be shared by roommates. SSU does not provide telephones or voicemail accounts to students. Students must bring their own analog phone.
Telephone Problems
If you have problems with your telephone service, contact the Information Technology (IT) Helpdesk at x44357. Before calling, check that the problem is with the line, not with your telephone instrument. To verify this, borrow a known working phone and plug it into your jack. Also, we recommend plugging your phone into a known working jack. If a technician needs to enter your room, you will be asked to schedule an appointment.
Long Distance Service
The University does not provide long distance telephone service. To make long distance calls you must purchase a pre-paid calling card, use a calling card which charges to your home phone, or use a credit card. Students may not establish telephone service using a University telephone number as a reference.
Conditions of Use
Students may not bill phone calls to a third party. Students may not accept collect calls. Any attempt to circumvent the published dialing patterns which would make the University liable for telephone costs, will result in disciplinary action.
We are also alerting students that dialing certain toll-free numbers (so called "free services") may inadvertently lead them being switched over to a 900-number which may result in billable calls to the University. User beware! By using a Residential Community Telephone, you implicitly accept these conditions.
