Welcome Week -
Tech Support for ResHall Students
We realize that the first few days of attending university can be a stressful
time for students and their families. To help students get connected and communicating
as quickly and as conveniently as possible, we make a special effort to provide
extra services during the first few days of each Fall semester. SSU IT staff
will be available on site in the Residence Halls to help you with your computing
and telephone issues.
Helpdesk Stations
We will be available at multiple locations throughout the residence halls for Move-In Weekend. We can be reached on-campus by dialing 4-HELP (x44357) and from off-campus 664-HELP (664-4357). We will take requests for service in the order they were received and will have staff available to go to individual rooms. After Move-In Weekend, we will be located at the IT Helpdesk (IT Lobby, Schulz 1000).
We also provide basic voice and data connectivity assistance, answers to commonly asked questions regarding other university services, and referral information for getting further campus assistance. Although all students are required to bring “internet ready” computers, for your convenience SSU is currently trying to arrange for an outside vendor to be available on campus during Move-In Weekend to sell and install network cards and cables. SSU Staff will not be able to install NIC cards in students' computers. If a computer is brought onto campus without an installed NIC card, please be prepared to either install it yourself or pay a vendor to install it for you.
Your Computer Must Be In Good Working Condition
Please note: it is assumed that your computer will be in good working condition. SSU Information Technology staff and subcontractors do NOT provide support for your computers at the Operating System (OS) level. If you need help with your operating system, you will need to find other sources of assistance - a skilled friend, a certified computer technician, or local computer store, such as Best Buy or CompUSA.
SSU Information Technology is committed to providing “first-class” service and assistance to you during Move-In weekend, Welcome Week and throughout the entire semester. To request assistance after Sunday August 22, please call the IT Helpdesk at (on-campus) 4-HELP, (off-campus) 664-HELP.
