Admissions Guidebook Fall 2014
Step 8: Paying Your Fees and Tuition
During your first two weeks here there will be much to accomplish including paying your fees and tuition for the semester. You will be able to pay your fees with a credit card or using a check. When you travel you should not carry large amounts of cash with you, but if you are using cash, you should plan to bring most of your money in some other form such as traveler's checks. During the International Student Orientation you will be introduced to banking in the United States and the US Bank, which has a branch office on the Sonoma State University campus.
Once you have settled your class schedule for the semester, you should pay your bill for fees and tuition. All fees and tuition must be paid by (TBA) 2014 which is the last day to change classes. If for any reason it is not possible for you to pay your tuition and fees by the final due date, please make an appointment in the Seawolf Service Department to discuss an installment plan. If you do not pay your bill in full by (TBA) 2014, it will be assumed that you want an installment plan and a 15% service fee will be added to your bill.
You must remember that F1 and J1 visa regulations stipulate that international undergraduate students must enroll in as least 12 units, and international graduate students must enroll in at least 8 units each semester. The figures in the table below are based on these minimum requirements.
These amounts are estimates and are subject to change without notice. Actual expenses may vary.
Tuition and fees are subject to change by the Trustees of the CSU without prior notice and are usually increased each academic year.
|Expense||Undergraduate (12 units)||Graduate (8 units)|
|California State Registration fees*||7234.00||8500.00†|
|Tuition ($372 per unit)||8928.00||5952.00|
|Books and materials||1788.00||1788.00|
|Housing/Food (full meal plan: 17 meals per week)||11545.00||11545.00|
* The California State University (CSU) makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees, without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by the Board of Trustees.
** Health Insurance typically increases annually so this estimate is possibly a little low
† For MBA only - $278 per unit professional fee (additional $4448 per year) Please note that international travel and extraordinary personal expenses are not included in the cost estimates above. Family Members: Students who will be accompanied by a spouse and/or children will need to submit additional documentation of financial support ($3700 for spouse and $2900 for each child.)
It is difficult to estimate each student's exact bill as bills vary with the type of housing/meal plan selected, the number of units taken and the cost of required books. Therefore what works best for most students is to establish a checking account here in Rohnert Park and either deposit traveler's checks to that account or to have money wired to the account from overseas. Then you are able to pay each fee separately as it is billed. You can also use a Visa, Discover, American Express or MasterCard.
If you are attempting to estimate your expenses, you should use the basic models above but for tuition substitute in $372 times the number of units you will be taking, if it is more than the minimum required, and the cost of your housing selection. Living off-campus is generally similar in cost when shared rent, utilities and food are taken into account.
If you experience an unanticipated financial emergency, you may apply to pay all or part of your tuition in three monthly installments. However, you must pay your California State Registration Fees by the due date for that semester. If you are interested in paying the rest of your bill in installments, see someone in the Seawolf Service Department. Please note that the University charges a 15% service fee to everyone who participates in the installment plan agreement.
