Eligible Programs

To be packaged with a financial aid award offer, you must be admitted to and pursuing an eligible academic program at SSU. Some eligible programs involve enrollment through another institution. The following sections explain which academic programs are eligible for financial aid at SSU.

Eligible Academic Programs at SSU

Unclassified Graduates

If you are an unclassified graduate, you are not eligible for aid at SSU unless you can verify that you are taking prerequisites for admittance into a post-baccalaureate program or you are admitted to the Gerontology Certificate Program.

Unclassified Graduates Taking Prerequisites

To verify you are taking prerequisites for admittance into a post-baccalaureate program, submit a letter from the department stating that you are taking pre-requisites, and which courses those are.

Students completing prerequisites for admissions to a Master’s or Credential program are eligible to receive financial aid for one 12-consecutive month period. The 12-consecutive month period begins on the first day of classes for which the student first receives financial aid with the status at any school. Once the 12-consecutive month period has elapsed, students are no longer eligible for further financial aid, unless admitted to a new eligible program.

You cannot be provided with an Award Offer until you demonstrate that you have not already received financial aid with this status at any school during a 12-consecutive month period. To do this, you must sign and submit a Prerequisite Eligibility Certification to our office. The form is available at the Downloadables section of our web site under To Do List Forms. If eligible, your Award Offer will consist of Federal Direct Stafford Loans and possibly State University Grant (SUG).

Unclassified Graduates Admitted to the Gerontology Certificate Program

Students admitted to the Gerontology Certificate Program are only eligible for funding from the State University Grant (SUG) program. This program does not meet the eligible program criteria for federal student aid programs like the Direct Loan program or the Federal Work-Study program.

Masters Students

May be eligible for State University Grant (SUG), Federal Work Study, Perkins Loan, Direct Loans.

Agreements with other Institutions Eligible for Aid at SSU

Students who participate in any of the following programs are advised to contact the Financial Aid Office (FAO) as soon as possible. There could be a delay in receiving funds since these programs usually require special handling.

Community College Enrollment

If you are receiving the Pell Grant, your community college courses taken through either Consortium Agreement or Cross-Enrollment could help you qualify for more Pell Grant funds since the Pell Grant is based on number of units taken. In either case, you must complete the Pell Grant Host School Enrollment Agreement Request form and submit it to the SSU Financial Aid Office in order to be eligible for additional Pell funds. The following conditions apply:

Cross-Enrollment Participation

Student may take just one course. Applies to all California Community Colleges.

Consortium Enrollment Participation

Students may take more than one course. Applies to colleges with which SSU has an existing consortium agreement:

Enrollments at Other CSUs

Visitor Program

You may visit another CSU campus for a semester if approved by Admissions and Records. If you are visiting another school, your financial aid will come from SSU. Once you are approved and enrolled in the Visitor Program, submit a copy of your Application for Intrasystem Visitor Enrollment, along with verification of your enrollment at the other campus, to the SSU Financial Aid Office. Financial aid checks will be mailed to the Bursar’s Office at the school you are visiting. It is your responsibility to make payment arrangements with the visiting school. Final grades must be sent to SSU when the semester is completed, and will hold up further aid if not received. If you enroll in a Study Abroad program at your host school, please be aware that you will not be eligible for further aid at SSU until you provide either an English-language translation of your foreign transcript or a transcript from the host CSU listing specific courses and grades.

Concurrent Enrollment

SSU students may also attend another CSU as long as they are enrolled in at least one unit at SSU. Concurrent enrollment must be approved through Admissions and Records and is valid for one term only. These units will be considered as part of your enrollment status for financial aid purposes. You are required to submit proof of enrollment to the SSU Financial Aid Office before the end of the add/drop period at SSU. Grades for the semester must be sent to SSU after you have completed the course(s), and will hold up further aid if not received.

International Programs

If you are accepted into a CSU International Program, you will be eligible for aid at SSU. Depending on the country which you study in, the total amount of aid you receive could be more or less than you would receive at SSU, due to differing costs. The CSU International Program Office forwards verification of enrollment directly to the SSU Financial Aid Office. Checks will be mailed out to the student’s most current mailing address in Self Service.

National Student Exchange

You may attend other colleges and universities nationwide that participate in the NSE Program. If you are on Incoming Plan A or Outgoing Plan B, your financial aid will come from SSU.

Incoming Plan A students
You are enrolled at SSU and fees are paid to SSU.
Outgoing Plan B students
You must submit verification of enrollment at the host school each semester to the SSU Financial Aid Office before funds can be disbursed. Checks will be mailed to the Bursar’s Office at the host school. Final grades must be sent to SSU when each semester is completed, and will hold up further aid if not received.
