CHOOSING A FRESHMAN LEARNING COHORT: THE EOP ACADEMY
There are many different Freshman Learning Cohorts to choose from. The EOP Academy is the Academic Cohort focused on the success of EOP Freshmen and enthusiastically values multiculturalism.
EOP students come from communities all over California and share the goal to be the first in their families to graduate from college. By taking part in the Academy, you start your Freshman Year classes in the company other EOP students who share your dreams and have had similar life experiences.
Whatever your major or intended career, EOP Academy is a great way to start your required college coursework, build community, and gain confidence in yourself as a college student. The EOP Academy will facilitate your success in any major.
After meeting your classmates at Summer Bridge, EOP Academy students take part in a Fall class similar to an AVID or Upward Bound home-room. You are introduced to support services, leadership opportunities, and campus social events to help you feel at home at Sonoma. Many EOP Academy students go on to campus-wide leadership positions.
Living Arrangements and the EOP Academy.
You don't have to live on campus to be part of EOP Academy. . If you do live on campus, the EOP Academy is NOT linked to a particular dorm/residence hall so you have choices. But be aware that some living areas, and all single rooms, have higher costs which would likely mean more loans for you to pay back. We strongly recommend the Residential Double Suites in Zinfandel and Verdot for financial reasons. More information on Housing costs
OTHER FRESHMAN COHORTS:
You are free to choose any of the other Freshman Learning Cohorts, if you believe it meets your interests more than the EOP Academy. You will still maintain some valuable benefits of being an EOP student including eligibility for the EOP Grant and an EOP Advisor. Make sure you understand the costs of any dorms linked with some of the other Freshman programs.
