Nancy Foster Glasmeier Research and Writing Award

Sanders Award Winner

The Department of Environmental Studies and Planning is pleased to announce the 2013-14 recipient of the Nancy Foster Glasmeier Research and Writing Award is Brandon Sanders, who is also our Head Intern in the Classroom Garden. His research project will explore the agricultural history of Sonoma County, with particular emphasis on changing crops and practices in the Dry Creek region. He will be working with Lou Preston, owner of biodynamic Preston Vineyards, to connect with local land owners as well as historical documents, to see what can be learned from past agricultural practices and crop transitions that could be applied to today's efforts to farm more sustainably. Brandon's research will also provide a historic backdrop for a day-long field trip to Preston Vineyards in March 2014, as part of the annual American Society for Environmental History conference, taking place in San Francisco.

The application dates for the 2014-2015 will be announced later this year.
