Science and Mathematics Teacher Recruitment and Retention Initiative: SMTRI (project symmetry)

Project Goals

The purpose of SMTRI project is to build science and mathematics capacity in our local community by focusing on the recruitment, preparation and retention of science and mathematics for our secondary schools. These are our goals:

1. Recruit future science and mathematics teachers from five different sectors ( High School Students, Junior College Students, SSU Undergrad, Post Baccalaureates, and Career Changers)
2. Prepare teachers efficiently and efficaciously depending on their backgrounds and needs. 
3. Support teacher candidates with some financial obligations.
4. Support and retain science teachers in the community by establishing a science and mathematics community of practice.
5. Establish networks in the community to create long lasting programs.
