Psychology 425 – Abnormal Behavior (MFT only)
Troubled patterns of behavior and methods of coping with the world, and examination of variables that produce them. Review of current major DSM categories.

Psychology 461 – Personality (MFT & PPS)
Varied viewpoints are brought to bear in an attempt to conceptualize and understand the process and functioning of human personality. (Prerequisite PSY 306 – waived for Counseling applicants.)

Psychology 445 – Advanced Research Design and Analysis (MFT & PPS) or:
The principles of research design and analysis are taught be lecture, library exercises, computer simulation, and direct experience. Working in small groups, students design and carry out an original research project, analyze the results, and report them in APA format. (Prerequisite PSY 380 or consent of instructor)

Business 211 - Business Statistics (MFT & PPS)
Topics include data presentation, types of distributions, probability theory, sampling theory, and hypothesis testing. Parametric and nonparametric statistical tests will be examined, including t-tests, correlation tests, Chi-square, and ANOVA. Prerequisite: computer competency and pre-business math requirement.

One of the following is acceptable for the Child Development Prerequisite for the PPS track:

Psychology 302 Development of the Person
A multidisciplinary examination of the social, cultural, emotional, and psychphysiological development of the human being. Shows how research and theories relater to and assist individuals in their own self-development.

Psychology 410 Child Development (PPS only)
Introduces students to the social-emotional, cognitive, language, biological, and physical development of children and adolescents. Students learn major developmental theories and current research as applied to relevant issues in today's society. The role that parents, teachers, communities, and cultures play in the healthy growth and development of children is emphasized. Prerequisites: PSY 250 and junior standing, or consent of instructor.

EDMS 420 – Child Development Family, School, and Community
Theories of child and adolescent development and learning in the contexts of families, schools, and communities are addressed; as well as parental health, cognitive and language development, social, emotional, and moral development, and their links to classroom practice. Gender socialization, second-language learning and cultural differences in child-rearing practices are examined; as well as historical and philosophical perspectives on development, teaching and learning.

A Valid Teaching Credential also satisfies the Child Development prerequisite
