National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
Nov. 16 -20
Here's how you can get involved:
• SSU's 2nd Annual Canned Food Drive:
Join students, faculty, and staff in bringing in canned food and cereal to be donated to Redwood Empire Food Bank (http://www.refb.org/). Cans can be donated at most departments and main buildings on campus. If you or anyone you know is in need of food or other services, dial 2-1-1 for assistance. Co-sponsored by CSUEU. |
• Monday, Nov. 16 - Hope for Hunger and Homelessness Panel.
The panel will be introduced by Dr. Sheila Katz, who will discuss the national state of affairs of hunger and homelessness and describe some national policy changes designed to address this issue. Members of the panel will include past and present clients of the organizations Committee on the Shelterless (COTS) and Catholic Charities Family Support Center, as well as staff from the Redwood Empire Food Bank and Salvation Army. It will be followed by a question and answer period. The panel begins at 7:00 pm in the MPR, Student Union.
• Wednesday, Nov. 18, Volunteer at Redwood Empire Food Bank Sort, pack and distribute food at the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa from 5:00pm – 7:30pm.

• Thursday, Nov. 19 - Serve Thanksgiving Dinner (5:00pm) or participate in working at the Kid's Fair (6:00pm) at Catholic Charities, Family Support Center. Sign in the JUMP Office. Carpool is provided!
• Friday, Nov. 20 - Serve Dinner at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. We'll be leaving SSU at 1:30pm and returning 6:30pm. Spots are limited. Sign in the JUMP Office. Carpool is provided!

Volunteers Needed for Evergreen Elementary!
Evergreen Elementary School is committed to providing high-quality education to its diverse student body. They achieve their goal through a challenging curriculum, quality teachers, and an atmosphere that emphasizes communication and cooperation.
The Study Buddies Program at Evergreen takes place during after school hours for 2nd-5th grades. Students who volunteer with this program tutor children who are falling behind in classes and therefore need extra help. The program focuses on homework help, reading, and building the self-esteem of each child enrolled in the program. This program asks for a semester long commitment on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.
